Popular actor Nayanthara’s documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale, is facing legal issues again. The latest complaint comes from AB International, the production company behind her 2005 film Chandramukhi. They claim the documentary used footage from the film without permission and have filed a lawsuit asking for Rs 5 crore in damages. Nayanthara’s legal team has said they are trying to settle the issue out of court.
Legal Case Next Hearing In October
The case was last heard on September 10. Nayanthara’s lawyers told the court they are working on an agreement with AB International. The next hearing has been scheduled for October 6, 2025.
Rahul Dhawan, Managing Partner at Lex Chambers, said, “AB International believes their rights were violated, but we’re in talks to resolve it. It likely won’t go to trial.” He added that another case involving Dhanush’s production house, Wunderbar Films, is still moving toward trial.
Previous Legal Battle With Dhanush
This isn’t the first time the documentary has faced legal action. In November 2024, actor Dhanush filed a civil suit against Nayanthara, her husband and filmmaker Vignesh Shivan, and their company Rowdy Pictures. He alleged they used a three-second clip from his film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan without permission.
The Madras High Court had earlier refused to dismiss Dhanush’s case. Nayanthara’s legal team confirmed that all documents have been submitted, and the case will now go to trial. The last hearing was on August 20, 2025, but it was postponed. The next date is yet to be announced.
Dhanush’s company, Wunderbar Films, has also asked the court for permission to sue Los Gatos Production Services India LLP, which manages Netflix content in India.
