Actor Kamal Haasan has landed in controversy after a Pro-Kannada group, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV), filed a police complaint against him for his recent statement about the Kannada language.

Police Complaint Filed Against Kamal Haasan

The police complaint was lodged on Wednesday at RM Nagar Police Station in Bengaluru. According to KRV, Haasan’s remark that “Kannada is born from Tamil” has deeply hurt the sentiments of Kannadigas and amounts to an insult to their language and culture.

KRV President Praveen Shetty called the statement “unlawful” and said it threatens the linguistic and cultural harmony between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. As per India Today, he said, “Such irresponsible remarks can lead to unrest.”

Kamal Haasan made the controversial comment during the audio launch of his film Thug Life in Chennai. While speaking on stage, he said, “Your language (Kannada) was born out of Tamil. So you are included in that line.” The remark quickly went viral, sparking outrage both politically and online.

Leaders from both the Congress and BJP in Karnataka condemned Haasan’s statement, calling it historically inaccurate and inflammatory. Many demanded that he issue a public apology.
