Tamil Actor Bharathiraja's Son Manoj Bharathiraja Passes Away At 48

Veteran actor Bharathiraja’s son Manoj Bharathiraja passed away on Tuesday (March 25). He suffered a cardiac arrest at his residence in Chetpet, Chennai. The 48-year-old was recovering from a recent bypass surgery. Manoj made his acting debut with the 1999 release of Taj Mahal and was a major player in Tamil cinema. Later, he appeared in a number of films, including Samudhiram, Kadal Pookkal, Alli Arjuna, Eera Nilam, Annakodi, and Baby.

He directed his first movie in 2023, Margazhi Thingal, which included his father Bharathiraja and up-and-coming actors. The film’s performance at the box office was mediocre.

South Celebs Mourn Manoj Bharathiraja’s Demise

A lot of celebs are in shock that Manoj Bharathiraja passed away at such a young age. South superstar Kamal Haasan posted on X, “I was deeply shocked and saddened to hear the news of the passing of Manoj Bharathiraja, the son of actor and my soulmate director Bharathiraja. I express my deepest condolences to Bharathiraja, his family, and friends, who are grieving the loss of their beloved son.”

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, MK Stalin, wrote on X, “I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing of Mr. Manoj Bharathi, the son of actor and director Bharathiraja. Having debuted through the film Taj Mahal under his father’s direction, Mr. Manoj went on to act in several films such as Samuthiram, Alli Arjuna, and Varushamellam Vasantham, establishing a distinct identity for himself. Manoj also ventured into fields including direction. His unexpected passing at a young age is profoundly shocking. I extend my deepest condolences and solace to Director Imayam Bharathiraja, who is grieving the loss of his beloved son, as well as to his family and friends in the film industry.”

Popular South actress Simran mourned the late actor’s demise and shared on X, “Extremely shocked to hear the news of the untimely demise of Manoj Bharathiraja. Heartfelt condolences to Bharathiraja sir and the grieving family. May his soul rest in peace. Om Shanti.”

Karthi played the lead part in Manoj’s final acting stint in Viruman. The late actor was instrumental in the movie’s success at the box office. His two daughters, Arshitha and Mathivadhani, as well as his wife, Nandana, survive him. Manoj collaborated with Nandana, who is also an actor, on the movie Saadhuriyan.
