The release of Thalapathy Vijay starrer Jana Nayagan is just three days away, but the film has encountered controversy due to a delay in receiving its CBFC certification. Directed by H. Vinoth, the film holds special significance as it is believed to be Vijay’s final acting project before he steps away from cinema and ventures into politics. Despite these hurdles, the film has generated considerable excitement, with tickets selling out in Mumbai and strong bookings across India.
Jana Nayagan FDFS Sold Out In Mumbai Amid CBFC Certification Controversy
Currently, Jana Nayagan is awaiting its censor certificate. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has informed the Madras High Court that the film will undergo a fresh review by a newly appointed committee. Despite this delay, anticipation remains high not only in Tamil Nadu and Kerala but also in Mumbai. Early ticket sales indicate a promising opening day, with Mumbai’s 4 am shows already sold out.
The film will premiere in a limited number of theatres in Mumbai, though more screens are expected to be added. In Chembur’s Movietime Cubic Mall, early morning shows at 4 am, 4:30 am, and 5 am are already booked out. Other shows at 5 am and 7:30 am are also sold out, with some theatres offering the first slot at 6 am.
Why Is Tamil Nadu’s Advance Booking Delayed?
In Tamil Nadu, ticket sales are on hold as the production team is still awaiting the censor certificate from CBFC. Theatre owners are cautious, holding off on releasing tickets to avoid last-minute issues once approval is granted.
Initially, reports suggested that ticket sales in Tamil Nadu were delayed because the film had not yet received the CBFC certificate. Without certification, theatres could not begin selling tickets. Industry expert Sreedhar Pillai states that the censoring process is nearly complete, with the film’s total runtime being 3 hours, 3 minutes, and 43 seconds. Once the certificate is issued, ticket sales in Tamil Nadu will commence.
Current Status Of Talapathy Vijay Led Jana Nayagan Advance Bookings
Advance bookings are already underway in several regions outside Tamil Nadu, including Karnataka, Kerala, and Mumbai. The film is also generating significant interest internationally, particularly in the US, where premiere shows are scheduled for January 8—one day before India. In India, the first show is set for January 9 at 4 am in Mumbai, with additional screenings beginning at 6:05 am in Bengaluru and Kochi.
