Arjan Bajwa, who has been a part of movies like blockbusters like Fashion, Crook, Son of Sardar, Bobby Jasoos, Rustom, and Kabir Singh, to name some, feels that OTT platforms have given the industry the power to showcase elaborate stories; however, he stressed that content today has become very bland and altogether doesn’t have much excitement that can keep the audience intrigued.

Arjan Bajwa Shares Insights On Future Of Cinema, OTT Platforms

He said, “OTT has changed the dynamics of the industry positively. First of all, it offers another avenue to showcase films and the content we create. Many stories require elaborate storytelling, something that’s not always possible within the two-hour runtime of a traditional film. OTT web shows allow those stories to be told in a longer format. However, at the same time, people have started avoiding theatres unless a film is truly eye-catching. This is largely because audiences can now watch high-quality content from around the world from the comfort of their homes.”

“While I do believe OTT has been a boon for the film business by providing an alternative platform for exhibition, I also feel that we’ve started to lose the element of heroism in our stories. Many of the narratives today are very ordinary, lacking inspiration or aspirational value. As a result, audiences don’t find anything in those stories or characters to look up to or follow,” he added.

In the last three years, Arjan has shot two films, including his first international project, Demon Hunters. He said, “Last year was a slowdown for everyone, but I’ve been working on a couple of stories, reading new scripts, and awaiting the release of two completed films, which will be out very soon.” And he is not someone who looks at the role; rather, his focus is always on the script and the story, which adds to his career, too. He said, “It’s not the kind of roles you look for, it’s the kind of scripts you look for, and something that puts you on the map, especially now that filmmaking, storytelling, and concepts have become so diverse, portraying different aspects and areas of life. So in that respect, yes, scripts are very important.”

“But if you ask about a particular role, I’ve often been told that I suit defence-related roles quite well, like I did in my series State of Siege 26/11, where I played national hero Colonel Sunil Sheoran, who led the NSG operation Black during the 2008 Mumbai attacks,” he added. Asked what kind of content he prefers to watch, Arjan said, “As an audience, you can’t be particular about certain types of films. Watching a film is a form of entertainment, so any genre that entertains you to the fullest is most welcome. It can range from love stories to dark films to gangster dramas.”
