TroyBoi Releases Kabhi Ft Lata Mangeshkar
Being half Indian himself, TroyBoi is gearing up for his ‘ROOTZ’ EP to be released on September 19 and we cannot wait to see him work his magic. Teasing us with another single out now, ‘Kabhi’ resonates with many of us as it is a tribute to the iconic voice of Lata Mangeshkar, one of the most revered artists in Indian music history.
Lata Mangeshkar, known as the ‘Nightingale of India,’ was a cornerstone of Indian cinema and music for over seven decades, her voice spanning more than 30,000 songs in multiple languages. With ‘Kabhi’, TroyBoi introduces her legacy to a new generation, framed within his unique musical universe and unmatched talent.
The song draws from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, one of Bollywood’s most iconic and emotionally resonant films. Released in 2001, the film became a global cultural phenomenon, celebrated for its unforgettable music and bringing together love, identity, and family starring icons such as Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and many more.
Lata Mangeshkar’s vocals in the film’s title track are etched into the memories of millions across the world, making this sample one that many of us feel a sense of nostalgia towards. ‘Kabhi’ also plays a significant milestone in the India market as this is the first time the original vocal from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham has been officially cleared for use in a non-Bollywood production.
