John Abraham Tehran

Tehran, now streaming on ZEE5, has swiftly risen to become one of the platform’s most popular action thrillers. Directed by Arun Gopalan, the film features a compelling ensemble cast led by John Abraham, alongside Manushi Chhillar, Neeru Bajwa, and Madhurima Tuli. Inspired by real-life events, the story masterfully blends high-stakes espionage, shifting alliances, and the tense pulse of global geopolitics. With its gripping action, nuanced drama, and unflinching realism, Tehran has struck a powerful chord with both critics and audiences, earning praise for being as thought-provoking as it is thrilling.

Reflecting the film’s commitment to realism and relevance, ZEE5 partnered with the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS) in New Delhi for a special screening — a first-of-its-kind initiative. The event, held for SSIFS students and their families, was followed by an insightful Q&A session with John Abraham. Engaging directly with aspiring diplomats, John discussed the intricacies of portraying a covert operative and the delicate balance of representing international affairs on screen with responsibility.

John Abraham On The Most Challenging Scene From Tehran

Speaking at the special screening, John mentioned that taking on a story of such global scope came with its share of creative and emotional challenges. Tehran boldly tackles politically sensitive themes and delves into the complexities of Middle Eastern geopolitics — a subject seldom explored in Indian cinema. For John Abraham, the film was more than just another action role; it was a meaningful opportunity to tell a story that connects global events to the Indian context, illustrating how international developments can ripple into our everyday lives.

One moment, in particular, stood out for him as the most emotionally demanding: the film’s final scene.
Recalling that experience, John shared, “The most difficult scene emotionally was the one where Tamir dies and I rest my forehead against his. In that moment, you relive the entire journey of what this man has done — how his brother died, the sacrifices he made as an Iranian in that space and now he’s gone, lying lifeless in front of you. It’s the point where you realize everything he has done and that he was the last man standing. So for me, even within that action ecosystem, it was a very intense moment – I actually broke down when I saw his eyes closed.”

Bollywood Bubble gave the film a 3.5 rating. A part of the review read, “Tehran is a must watch for its realistic representation of what our heroes do for us without expecting anything in return – even the guarantee that they may not be able to every return back to their homeland.”
