In a discussion with Filmygyan, Aly clarified that his silence during the viral video was not intended to disrespect anyone. Instead, it stemmed from confusion and a desire to avoid crossing religious boundaries. “I didn’t even realise it. I was lost in my thoughts. I never imagined this could cause such a big issue. This was my first time attending Ganpati celebrations…I usually don’t go. I didn’t know exactly what I was supposed to do there, and I always worry I might do something wrong,” he explained.

He further stated, “It’s not part of my religion; hum puja nahi karte hai. We follow one belief — we offer namaz, pray, and respect all religions. It is written in the Quran that we must respect everyone, and I do.”

What Is The Controversy?

The controversy ignited after videos from the festivities circulated on social media. In one clip, Aly stood silently while Jasmin and others chanted “Ganpati Bappa Morya.” Despite Jasmin encouraging him to join, he chose not to. Another video showed Aly, dressed in traditional attire, posing with Jasmin and actress Nia Sharma for the paparazzi. When the crowd chanted “Ganpati Bappa,” Aly remained silent once again.

Nia Sharma also voiced her support, calling the trolling unfair and unwarranted. She emphasised that Aly’s silence should not be mistaken for disrespect.
