Delnaaz Irani Talks About Kiku Sharda In Rise & Fall

Delnaaz Irani has known Kiku Sharda for years, and for her, his image as someone who spreads joy is not just what the public sees but who he truly is at heart. Kiku is currently part of the reality show Rise & Fall, and the Kal Ho Naa Ho actress is supporting her friend, who is also her Rakhi brother and coincidentally was the first guest on her YouTube food series Swaad Aur Sitare With Delnaaz.

Delnaaz Irani On Kiku Sharda In Rise & Fall

Talking about Kiku, Delnaaz said, “The Kiku that I know—I think he is loved by one and all. He spreads joy, he spreads happiness, and he spreads a lot of kindness. Also, the Kiku that I know is very jovial. He’s extremely positive, makes people laugh, and all. But I’ve seen the emotional side of Kiku as well. When he’s with people and if he really likes the whole group or a person, he’ll go out of his way to make that person happy. He spreads a lot of cheer, he spreads a lot of joy, and of course, he’s his comic self. And that’s what Kiku is.”

“He’s a very chilled-out guy. He’s extremely positive as a person. He loves his food, and he loves good company. And also, like I said, if he connects with a person, he gets extremely emotional as well. So I guess that’s Kiku for people. And I’m sure he’s going to retain this image, and Kiku is going to remain real because he is a real person. Show or no show, Kiku is a very real person, so he’ll always be the way he is,” she added.

Reflecting on how the audience might get to see a new side of him, she shared her experience of watching him break down in the initial episodes of the show, pointing out that it’s a different side of him people will get to see.

He’s extremely emotional as well. He lost both his parents in a very brief period. One side of Kiku is comedy—making people laugh, laughing with others, or making them laugh. But another side of Kiku is that he’s an emotional guy. I saw a clip where he broke down in front of people while talking about his mom, and that was so heart-wrenching,” she said.

I had never seen Kiku cry. Never, ever. In fact, I know his family pretty well, and even during that sad moment, I hadn’t seen him cry or break down. But the moment I saw this, I was like, Oh my God… he’s getting so emotional about everything. But through that one clip, I realised people are definitely going to see a different side of Kiku for sure in the show. His audience will see the softer, more emotional side—the Kiku who is the real person,” she added.

For Delnaaz, there’s nothing she would want him to change in his approach to the show. Speaking about his performance, she said, “I don’t think he should change the way Kiku is. Kiku is absolutely doing fine in the game, and people love him; they have always loved him. Basically, he’s a people’s person. At the same time, he has a quirky side to him.”

“I don’t think he’s there to prove a point to anybody. When you go for reality shows, it’s always like, ‘I have to do this, I have to prove something, I have to show this side to the audience.’ But he’s a complete natural. He’s not being too harsh on himself, and he’s not pushing too much just to win the trophy. He’s fine. He is absolutely the way he is,” she added.

Talking about what makes him stand out, she said, “It’s the lively nature that he has, the positive approach that he brings, the quirkiness he carries, the one-liners, the wittiness—that is Kiku for you.”

As the show continues, Delnaaz believes his fans will only get to know him better and appreciate the man behind the laughter. She said, “I just want to tell his fans: love Kiku the way you all always have, support him completely, and enjoy the Kiku you’re watching on this reality show. Because until now, you’ve seen Kiku performing as Bachcha Yadav or the other characters he plays on The Great Indian Kapil Show. But Kiku as a person is equally entertaining.”

“Kiku as a person is extremely positive, kind, witty, enjoyable—a total entertainer. So I think people should really see the real Kiku on the show,” she ended.
