Mahir Pandhi Talks About His Double Role In Veer Hanuman

Mahir Pandhi, known for his roles in Vanshaj, Choti Sarrdaarni, and Congrats My Ex, currently portrays the twin-vanar brothers Baali and Sugreev in Siddharth Kumar Tewary’s Veer Hanuman on Sony Sab. Though he confessed that both the characters are very different from each other, it was not very difficult for him.

Mahir Pandhi On Playing Double Roles

Asked if it was difficult for him to play a double role, he said, “Playing a double role was not a challenge. I am someone who runs away from monotony, and I am enjoying playing Baali and Sugreev to the best of my abilities. Everyone experiences emotions, and the choices they make eventually define them. Sugreev makes certain choices, while Baali opposes him with different ones. It’s quite fun, because the era is different, the language is different, and the outfits are different.”

“But when you are playing two characters who are completely opposite yet share the same DNA, you need to find the fine line where both of them will be the same or different from each other. So it’s been a fun journey so far,” he added.

Though it’s his first show in the mythological genre, Mahir is completely against calling it a mythological show. He emphasized that it is part of our history and encouraged people to read more about it and take pride in it.

He said, “Mythology is a term that was created to show that it’s a myth and not real. I don’t think these things are mythology; they are history because we have proof of them, not just in our country but in other countries too. So first we need to accept that it’s not a myth; it’s our history and culture, and we should be discussing it and feel proud of it.”

“Since we are not reading about it in our curriculum, let’s showcase it on television and make the young generation aware of their history and culture and also remind the older generation about it. Let’s all feel proud of our history and culture because if we don’t do so, we don’t have an identity,” he added.

Mythological shows connect with the audience on a different level, but the young actor feels that with so many genres and shows available, it’s not easier to make a fan base in today’s times. He said, “I am hoping that the show runs for years because these stories are the ones that have been with us for so long, yet we are not aware of it. In fact, I was surprised to know certain things and wondered why they’re not in our curriculum.”

“I am hoping that with this show, if it converts into a fan base, it will be great because the industry has evolved and the recall value of artists is slowly vanishing. The audience mostly remembers an actor for the reality shows they have done, so looking at these to be remembered for your craft will be an achievement,” Mahir ended.
