'Pooja' Prasanna Bisht Breaks Silence On Chiraiya Being Labelled 'Anti-Men Propaganda' Show

Prasanna Bisht, who stars in the web series Chiraiya, discusses the backlash against the show, emphasising why it is important and shedding light on why women often find it difficult to speak up in society. The series, which stars Divya Dutta, has sparked debate online for addressing topics like consent and marital rape. While some critics have labelled it as an ‘anti-men propaganda,’ Prasanna responds to these claims with conviction.

Prasanna Bisht Reacts To Chiraiya Being Labelled ‘Anti-Men Propaganda’ Show

Reacting to the criticism, Prasanna said to HT City, “It’s high time people start accepting this change.” She adds, “Just like nature and weather change over time, we need to evolve as well. It’s crucial that we start listening because these issues are real and happening. The show aims to highlight that a woman’s body belongs to her and to educate about the meaning of consent. If anyone considers that propaganda, it’s both amusing and sad. Those making such claims should educate themselves more, develop their emotional intelligence, and truly start listening.”

Prasanna Reacts To Online Claims

There have also been online claims suggesting that the show states 82% of married Indian women face abuse in their relationships. Denying this misinformation, Prasanna clarifies, “People should watch the show before making any assumptions or statements. They are spreading false data. The show never claimed such a percentage.”

When asked if she felt nervous or apprehensive about portraying scenes of harassment early in her career, Prasanna responds bravely: “There are so many men in this world who h*rass women without even considering their age. So, why should I worry about my age when speaking out against it? I’m proud to say I did it because it’s my responsibility. Yes, I am an actor, but more than that, I have experienced similar situations early in my life.”

Prasanna On How The Show Reflects The Truth Even If It’s Fictional

She emphasises that while the show’s story might be fictional, it reflects a harsh reality faced by many women. “Almost everyone I know has experienced someone challenging their dignity or trying to cross boundaries just because they think they can,” she says.

She acknowledges that victims often hesitate to speak up immediately. The actress explained, “People wonder why women don’t raise their voices right away. But what goes on in a victim’s mind is complex. Society’s upbringing and expectations often make women question themselves—‘Did I do something wrong? Did I make a mistake?’ Before speaking out, women try to understand what happened so they don’t say something wrong or ruin their relationships. It’s very difficult for women to understand themselves, and it was for me too. Figuring out what’s right and wrong isn’t easy.”

Prasanna Questions Criticism

Prasanna also questions those criticising the portrayal of men in the show. “Why aren’t they talking about Vinay? I’m surprised. Why aren’t they praising how he handled the situation, supported his wife, and demonstrated good values? They only focus on Arun and how men are depicted negatively. That’s not the full story. The show shows both sides. People need to open their minds and hearts to understand basic human realities,” she concludes.
