Mental health awareness has gained significant attention in recent years, and with World Mental Health Day observed on October 10, conversations around emotional well-being are more important than ever. Celebrities, who often appear to lead glamorous lives, are also human and face their own struggles. Actor Adrija Roy, currently seen in the popular show Anupamaa, shares her personal experiences and thoughts on mental health in the demanding world of television.

Adrija Roy Opens Up About Mental Health

Talking about mental health, Adrija Roy said, “Honestly, this day really hits home for me. There have been times when I’ve felt completely drained, both physically and mentally. Shooting all day, trying to stay on top of everything sometimes it just gets overwhelming. This day is a reminder to pause, breathe, and check in with myself.”

The life of an actor, she explains, comes with its fair share of stress and unpredictability. The ‘Anupamaa’ actress shared, “Yes, I’ve been exhausted many times! Some days the shoots go on endlessly, emotions run high on set, and the pressure can feel intense. I try to carve out little pockets of time for myself a quiet walk, listening to music, or talking to my family. If I don’t prioritize my mental health, it shows in my work and in my overall well-being.”

Adrija also believes that conversations around mental health in the entertainment industry are slowly breaking the stigma. She admits, “Even I’ve felt hesitant to share struggles at first. But seeing other actors talk openly makes you realize you’re not alone. It helps normalize mental health challenges and encourages everyone actors or fans to take care of themselves.”

Adrija: Scrolling Through Social Media Can Be Exhausting

Social media, Adrija adds, can sometimes be a source of stress. She said, “There are days when scrolling through social media can make you feel judged or compared to others. It can be exhausting. I try to step back, remind myself that what we see online is just a highlight reel, and focus on the things that make me happy in real life whether it’s spending time with loved ones or just being present in the moment.”

To maintain balance, Adrija relies on simple but effective practices. “I love journaling because it helps me let out my thoughts and emotions instead of bottling them up. Meditation or even just sitting quietly for a few minutes can really reset my mind. And talking openly with someone I trust a friend or family member makes the exhaustion and stress a lot more manageable.”

She emphasizes the importance of public figures sharing their struggles. Adrija said, “Fans often think we have it all figured out, but behind the camera, it’s not always easy. Even I’ve had days when I felt completely drained, and knowing that someone else understands or has been through the same thing can be really comforting. Sharing our experiences shows it’s okay to feel tired, overwhelmed, or anxious.”

This World Mental Health Day, Adrija Roy’s message is simple and powerful: it’s okay to feel exhausted, it’s okay to take a break, and looking after your mind is just as important as chasing your dreams.
