Bollywood’s favourite actor, Govinda, recently found himself at the centre of social media chatter after videos of him dancing at school functions and smaller public events went viral online earlier this year. Once known as one of Hindi cinema’s biggest stars thanks to his iconic dance moves and comedy films, the actor was seen performing at a school annual day event in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh. The clips quickly spread across social media, with some users mocking the appearances and calling them ‘small shows.’ Read on to know what the actor said.
Govinda Addresses Criticism Over ‘Small Shows’
Responding to the criticism during an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Govinda addressed the narrative directly and clarified that the events being labelled as “small” were actually organised by prominent political figures. He said, “Woh jinhen chhota keh rahe hain wo ek CM (Chief Minister) ka hai. Aur second jo hai, Member of Parliament hain. Unhein keh rahe hain.”
The actor further pointed out that social media often amplifies narratives without context. Speaking about the nature of online discussions, he remarked, “Social media kisike control mein thodi na hai. Waha jisse chahe sheershak (headline) bana dete hain.”
The actor explained why he took a small car to the event, and appearances at such events should not be looked down upon. Govinda also highlighted that every venue has its own rules and arrangements. Saying, “Unke paas allowed hi wahi hai. Aapki Mercedes sab bahar khadi rakhni padti hai. Kyunki wo wahan ka rule hai.”
About Govinda Performing At Shows In UP
For those unfamiliar, Govinda’s recent performances included dancing to his evergreen song Main Toh Raste Se Jaa Raha Tha at a school annual function and performing the song Angna mein baba at another ‘small event’, where students and attendees welcomed him with enthusiasm. The actor also sang and interacted with the audience, bringing back nostalgia for fans who grew up watching his energetic performances on screen.
Despite the online criticism, Govinda’s response reflects a calm and practical outlook. Rather than focusing on the trolling, the actor emphasised that social media narratives can often distort reality, while he continues to value the appreciation he receives from audiences at live events.
