Aamir Khan has officially confirmed that the much-rumoured sequel to the 2014 blockbuster PK, titled PK 2, is not in development. In recent news, there were rumours about Ranbir Kapoor joining the sequel as an alien like Khan. They were in talks for the pre-production stage.
Aamir Khan Clarifies PK 2 Is NOT Happening With Rajkumar Hirani
Addressing recent speculation, Aamir clarified in a recent interview that the sequel is not happening. He stated, “No, PK 2 is not happening. I don’t know where this news came from, but it is not happening. Raju and I are instead doing a different film. It is a biopic of Dadasaheb Phalke, which starts later this year,” leaving no doubt about the project’s direction.
PK Poster
This revelation came as a surprise to many fans who had been hoping to see the continuation of the beloved alien character that made PK a record-breaking hit. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, PK was the first Bollywood film to cross Rs 300 crore nett at the domestic box office and was the second consecutive blockbuster from the Aamir-Hirani team after 3 Idiots (2009), which was the first film to surpass Rs 200 crore nett. The ending scene of PK hinted at a sequel with Ranbir Kapoor entering the aliens’ world, but it appears those plans are now shelved.
Dadasaheb Phalke Biopic
The collaboration between Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani has consistently resulted in iconic cinema, and while PK 2 is no longer on the cards, their next project promises to be equally noteworthy. The duo is now focusing on a biopic of Dadasaheb Phalke, the pioneer of Indian cinema, which is set to begin filming later this year. Though fans may miss PK, the upcoming tribute to the father of Indian cinema is certainly something to look forward to.
