Javed Akthar Questions Why South Films Earn 600-700 Cr Which Bollywood Lacks; Aamir Khan Reacts

As Aamir Khan will be entering his 60s soon, PVR-INOX has announced a special film festival commemorating the actor’s contribution to Indian cinema. It was titled the Aamir Khan: Cinema Ka Jadugar. During this event, lyricist Javed Akhtar questions Aamir Khan why Bollywood lacks in making films like South films which earn 600-700 crore.

During Aamir Khan: cinema Ka Jadugar, when asked why South films earn 600-700 crores, Aamir said, “Actually main isko south aur north dekhte hi nahi hoon Javed Sahaab. For me a person is a person, woh banda Bombay main paida hua hai ya UP main ya Chennai main use koi farak nahi padhta. Lekin yeh mera manna hai. According to me, the problem we are facing is very different. This is what I am thinking, iss duniya main aaj tak jab bhi kisi ne koi cheez bechna ki koshish ki suppose pad banaai hai, aap mujhse yeh pad kharidlo 10 rupay main. Toh aap sochoge ki iss pad ki zarurat hai ki nahi hai mujhe, agar zarurat hai toh aap leloge agar nahi toh aap nahi loge.”

Aamir Khan On Bollywood’s Business Model Of Film Distribution

He further added, “This business is conducting like this. Yeh ek hi industry hai pure world main aur sirf hum log yeh kar rahe hai, hum audience ko kahe rahi hai ki humaare film aarahi hai. Aap ticket lelo, aur nahi kiya toh 8 hafte baad hum aapke ghar main aake yeh chodh jaayenge. Yeh humara business model hai, main agar isme kuch bhi galat bol raha hoon toh aap mujhe bataaye. Free of cost, aapne paise diye the, aapko shayad yaadh bhi nahi ho. Mujhe nahi aata ek aadmi ko do do baar koi cheez bechna. Isme obvious sawaal yeh uthta hai ki yeh film kaise chal gaye? Mujhe zarurat nahi hai, maine aapko business model samjhaya tha. Agar aapko zarurat hai toh aap lenge, nahi toh nahi lenge.”

Concluding the actor said, “Abh main jaata hoon theatre fancy ke liye. Earlier I used to go because I wanted to consume films. Pehele main isiliye jaata tha, abhi main kahi pe bhi dekh sakta hoon. Mere pocket main ek item hai usme bhi. Abhi main aaraha hoon kiuki mera mood hua hai aaneka. Abh usme aap business model nahi daal sakte. We have killed our own business. How can I seek the same thing from you twice? It’s just as seeing a car, if you cannot pick it up, we will drop it at your place.”

On the work front, Aamir will be next seen in Sitaare Zameen Par. It is a thematic sequel to his 2007 film, Taare Zameen Par. They just announced ‘Aamir Khan: Cinema Ka Jadugar’ will commence on the actor’s 60th birthday on March 14. It will come to a close on March 27.
