While speaking in Marathi, some journalists asked him to repeat his message in Hindi. Aamir responded with a smile, saying, “Hindi mein? yeh Maharashtra hai, bhai” (In Hindi? This is Maharashtra). When a reporter mentioned that his message would be broadcast in Delhi as well, he replied, “Oh, it will go to Delhi too? Very good arrangements have been made. I would like to urge everyone: come and cast your valuable vote.”

Ongoing Language Row In Maharashtra

The language issue is a sensitive topic in Maharashtra, fueling the ongoing debate between Marathi and Hindi ahead of the BMC elections. BJP leader Kripashankar Singh’s statement that a Hindi-speaking individual could become Mumbai’s Mayor sparked strong reactions from Uddhav and Raj Thackeray, who have recently reconciled after a two-decade split.

The Thackerays appealed to the ‘Marathi Manoos,’ emphasising unity. Raj Thackeray warned, “This is the last election for the Marathi man. If you miss this opportunity today, you will be finished. Unite for Marathi and Maharashtra. Mumbai was built through the sacrifices of many.”

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis defended non-Marathi residents, asserting they are fully integrated into Mumbai. He criticised the Thackerays for targeting underprivileged communities, specifically North Indian residents, and dismissed allegations of incidents targeting auto-rickshaw and cab drivers, stating, “This is for publicity.”
