Aamir Khan and Zaira Wasim in 'Secret Superstar'

After delivering a national award winning performance as the young Geeta Phogat in ‘Dangal’, actress Zaira Wasim is all set for her next release ‘Secret Superstar’. This film features her yet again with her onscreen father from ‘Dangal’, Aamir Khan. Recently, the theatrical trailer of this film was released where Zaira’s character is that of an aspiring singer who belongs to a conservative Muslim family. It was at the trailer launch of this film when Aamir Khan was questioned about the delay the film faced to go on floors. To which, he replied saying that it was due to ‘Dangal’.

The actor said, “’Secret Superstar’ got delayed because of ‘Dangal’. I told Zaira Wasim to shoot that film first.” [sic] Not many would be aware that the actress was simultaneously prepping up for her roles in ‘Dangal’ and ‘Secret Superstar’. (Also Read: ‘Secret Superstar’ trailer: Inspires well enough with tinges of comedy in place)

Further, Zaira was asked about the difference between ‘Dangal’ and ‘Secret Superstar’, to which she replied saying, “Nothing has changed in me. Only my hair was cut.” [sic]

Talking about the film, ‘Secret Superstar’ revolves around a 14-year-old girl named Insia (played by Zaira Wasim) who desires to be a singer, much to the chagrin of her father. She then decides to make her own YouTube channel in which she posts videos of herself singing, all the while covering her face in a burkha. She is then scouted by Aamir’s character who is a music director and is impressed by Insia’s music talent.

The film is helmed by debutant Advait Chandan, produced by Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao, Zee Studios and Akash Chawla. It is slated to hit the screens during the festive time of Diwali.
