Following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis,  some Indians are also voicing solidarity with the black community. Bollywood celebs like Priyanka Chopra, Karan Johar, Kareena Kapoor Khan and a few celebs took to their social media handles to condemn the murder of George Floyd. But most of our Indian celebs remain silent on atrocities that are happening in their own country. Netizens have called out these celebs who have raised their voice for this US movement #BlackLivesMatter.

Abhay Deol has also slammed the Indian celebs who are showing their solidarity for what’s happening in America instead of ‘calling out the systemic problems’ in our own country.

Abhay wrote a lengthy post that read: “Maybe it’s time for these now? Now that ‘woke’ Indian celebrities and the middle class stand in solidarity with fighting systemic racism in America, perhaps they’d see how it manifests in their own backyard? America has exported violence to the world, they have made it a more dangerous place, it was but inevitable that it would come back karmically. I’m not saying they deserve it, I’m saying look at the picture in it’s totality.”

He also urged to create our ‘own actions, ‘own movement’, relevant to our own country. “That is what the black lives matter movement is all about! In the larger picture, there is no “us” and “them”. There is not a country that’s real. But a planet in peril. #migrantlivesmatter #minoritylivesmatter #poorlivesmatter Black Lives Matter (find out why not to use the hashtag and still support the movement),” he added.

Kangana Ranaut also called out her contemporaries who are not speaking about the local crimes and injustices and now raising their voice for what’s happening in America.
