Adipurush Writer Manoj Muntashir Admits Film FAILED Amid Comparisons With Ramayana; Says, “There’s No Shame In Admitting…”

Whenever Hindu epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata are presented, the projects always become a topic for discussion. While some have impressed the masses, others have received criticism for the manner in which they presented the mythological. Similar to how Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan and Kriti Sanon’s Adipurush was the talk of the topic around the time of its release, Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi’s Ramayana is also making the headlines.

During an interaction with the media on Tuesday, Manoj Muntashir – who wrote the dialogues of the Om Raut directorial, reflected on Adipurush’s failure and even addresses comparisons with Namit Malhotra and Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. Scroll below to read all he said.

Manoj Muntashir Admits Adipurush

While talking to the media Manoj Muntashir hoped that Ranbir Kapoor-led Ramayana would be a success. He said, “Yash is a very good actor, and there is no doubt in this. My best wishes will be with every film that brings our story to the world stage. I have a lot of best wishes for Ramayana.”

Addressing the comparisons between the Ranbir Kapoor and Prabhas-led epics, Muntashir said, “It is better not to compare Ramayana with Adipurush. There should be no shame in admitting that Adipurush couldn’t meet the expectations. People who are associated with the film made it with a lot of effort, but it was a failed attempt. I am very proud that Adipurush’s music has reached the people. The film’s music is a big hit. I hope that the music of ‘Ramayana’ matches the music of ‘Adipurush’ and goes beyond that.”

Om Raut’s Adipurush – mounted on a massive budget of Rs 550 crore, tanked at the box office despite a big opening. Owing to negative word of mouth reviews, the film grossed below Rs 400 crore at the worldwide box office. The film received major flax for its dialogue and depictions of Ravana and Lord Rama.

Ramayana is a two-part epic directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios and VFX studio DNEG, in association with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. It is adapted by screenwriter Shridhar Raghavan and features music by legends Hans Zimmer and A R Rahman

Leading this extraordinary ensemble are Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Maa Sita and Yash Ravana. It also stars Arun Govil as King Dasharath, Shobana as Kaikesi, Ajinkya Deo as Sage Vishwamitra, Kunal Kapoor as Lord Indram Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshmana among others.

As per reports, the two-part epic film is being made on a combined budget of Rs 4,000 crore. Ramayana – Part One will release worldwide on Diwali 2026. The next instalment is expected to release in cinemas on Diwali 2027.
