On January 25, it was officially announced that Adnan Sami has been conferred with the fourth highest civilian honour of the country, the Padma Shri Award. He took to his Twitter handle to express his happiness on getting the prestigious award.

“The greatest moment for any Artiste is to be appreciated & recognised by his/her government. I am overwhelmed with infinite gratitude for being honoured with the ”Padma Shri” by the Government of India. It has been a 34 years musical journey.. ”Bohot Shukriya”!!”, Adnan tweeted. While some congratulated on his feat, some questioned his lineage, citizenship and also his father who was a Pakistani Air Force pilot who had fought against India in Indo-Pak wars.

Many attacked the singer on being the son of a Pakistani Air Force pilot who attacked India. Replying to a tweet, Adnan wrote, “I’m proud that just as my late father, I too have received the recognition, respect & honour from my country – for contribution & service to art & duty to my country. You are always responsible & answerable for your own life- not others! ‘History’ of justice teaches that!”. But now, we don’t find the tweet as it seems he has deleted it.

Adnan Sami denounced Pakistani citizenship and got Indian citizenship in 2016. He has an immense contribution in the field of music. He has sung in many Bollywood movies and also judged reality shows.
