In an industry that often celebrates success over schooling, Akshay Kumar has never hidden his unconventional journey. Known for discipline, fitness, and a relentless work ethic, the actor built his career without relying on academic degrees. Over the years, many have even joked about the contrast between him and his wife, Twinkle Khanna, a published author with a master’s degree. Now, Akshay has addressed that gap with rare honesty. On a recent episode of his reality show Wheel of Fortune, he opened up about feeling ‘insecure’ around highly educated people, and his words struck a chord.
Akshay Kumar Confesses Feeling Insecure Around Educated People
During one of the recent episodes, Akshay Kumar praised a contestant named Sonali for her academic achievements. Then, he turned inward, speaking candidly. And he didn’t hold back.“Koi bhi insaan, khaas kar mujh jaisa joh zyada padha-likha nahi hai, main kabhi-kabhi bohot chhota mehsoos karta hoon aap jaise logon ke saamne.”
The actor continued, “Kabhi-kabhi main sochta hoon mujhe padhna chahiye. Ab mehsoos hota hai ki kaash main padha hota. Lekin ab jab padhna chahta hoon tab bhi nahi padh sakta, kyunki mujhe padhna achha hi nahi lagta, bas itni si baat hai.”
Then, he shifted the focus back to the contestant. He asked a simple question: What does she plan to do with so many degrees? Sonali said, “Sir, dekhiye in degrees ki wajah se hi mujhe yahan khade hone ka mauka mil raha hai aur aapse doosri baar milne ka bhi mauka mila hai.”
That response clearly moved him. Akshay replied, “Main bas yeh kehna chahta hoon ki padho, padhna bahut zaruri hai. Mujh jaise ko follow mat karo, Sonali jaise logon ko follow karo.”
Akshay Kumar On Being Compared To Wife Twinkle Khanna
Akshay also spoke about Twinkle Khanna and her achievements. He acknowledged her work. He acknowledged her discipline. And then, he contrasted it with his own habits. “Aap vishwas nahi karenge, maine ek bhi kitab nahi padhi hai. Jab bhi main padhne baithta hoon, pata nahi kya hota hai, aankhon se aansu nikalne lagte hain.” While Twinkle has written multiple books and continues to build her literary career, Akshay admitted he still struggles to connect with reading at all.
Akshay Kumar didn’t try to sugarcoat his reality. Instead, he owned it and spoke openly. And more importantly, he used his platform to send a clear message, education matters. Even for someone who built a massive career without it, the value of learning remains undeniable.
