Akshay, Twinkle

Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar-starrer ‘Toilet – Ek Prem Katha’ has been in the headlines for plenty of reasons. And one amongst those is a song called ‘Hans Mat Pagli’ in which we see Akshay’s character following Bhumi and clicking pictures of her. Thus, the makers were accused of promoting stalking through the song video. However, when Bhumi and Akshay were asked to address the issue, they stated that it isn’t stalking in the first place.

Bhumi had said, “It is only stalking till the other person is objecting to it. If I am following you around or mentally harassing you, then it’s stalking. But if I am not objecting to it, then how’s it stalking? In the second part of the song, she is doing the same thing. There is a lot that happens around the story. Had this been an important aspect of the story, where he has become an obsessive lover, threatening her (then it’s a different thing), he isn’t mentally harassing the girl. There is a lot which happens before and after that, which will all make sense once you see the film in the larger context. It’s not one of those things where he is secretly recording me and then he threatens me. When you see the film, all your questions will be answered.” (Also Read: Pay attention, Akshay Kumar has a plea to all his fans)

In a media interaction, Akshay too had stated, “Well, in the film, she’s (Bhumi) aware of what’s happening. He’s not a stalker. Par mere ko ek baat bata. Newspaper photographer jab khada hota hai, does he takes permission before taking a picture? Then you also treat it like baap ka maal and publish those photographs. Do you ask ‘Beta permission liya?’ Woh bhi toh stalking hi kar raha hai.”

Now, after the two actors have lent their clarifications on the matter, we discovered that his wife Twinkle Khanna too felt that the song promoted stalking. He himself revealed it in a leading daily by saying, “When the trailer came out, even she (Twinkle Khanna) said it was stalking.” Twinkle, who was also present during the interview added, “I think (back in the day), we were also not evolved, or aware of the consequences or happenings in the world. I think movies have evolved, along with us. So have people who work in the movies.” Oh okay!

‘Toilet – Ek Prem Katha’ is directed by Shree Narayan Singh, and is slated to release on August 11, 2017.
