“Nirbhaya is a big scar in our heart, mind and legal system. We feel ashamed. We went through each department of that case (Nirbhaya case). This film is not inspired by that case,” Shoojit told reporters here at the trailer launch of “Pink”. he said.

In December 2012, a paramedical student was brutally gang-raped in Delhi and tortured. The braveheart fought for her life, but could not be saved due to the severity of her injuries. This gave birth to nationwide outrage, protest and demand for justice. The girl was named ‘Nirbhaya’, the fearless, someone who fought for her life, and never gave up hope till her last breath.

“We have seen these kind of cases in Delhi, Kolkata. I think everyone will relate to it, it must have happened in life with you all. Nirbhaya case helped me in legal terms but (the film’s story) is not based on this case at all. We were inspired by real court cases around the country. We have combined all and made it an entertaining and thrilling journey,” Sircar said.

‘Pink’ also stars Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari, Angad Bedi and will release on September 16.
