Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has been removed from the upcoming war drama Border 2 amid controversy surrounding the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in Sardaar Ji 3. The filmmakers decided to exclude Diljit, reportedly believing his inclusion would be inappropriate given the circumstances. The FWICE (Federation of Western India Cine Employees) has officially boycotted Dosanjh, accusing him of collaborating with Aamir and asserting that his association with Pakistani artists has “disrespected” Indian sentiments.
Ammy Virk To Replace Diljit Dosanjh In Border 2
As reported by India Today, the decision to omit Diljit was made unanimously by the team. They felt his participation was unsuitable for a film centred on the Indian Army. Ammy Virk is expected to replace Diljit in the role, as per sources. “Since ‘Border 2’ highlights the Indian Army, the makers felt Diljit’s presence would not be appropriate. They also wanted to prevent the controversy from affecting the film’s release and promotion. The team plans to reshoot the scenes featuring Diljit soon,” a source told India Today.
FWICE Appealed To Revoke Permission For Shooting Border 2 At NDA
Earlier today, FWICE appealed to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to revoke the permission granted for shooting the film at the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune. The federation reiterated its boycott of Dosanjh. They cited his involvement with Pakistani artists and projects in sensitive border locations like Pahalgam. Especially in the wake of recent terror attacks that claimed the lives of 26 soldiers.
The federation stated, “It is important to inform you that Diljit Dosanjh has been officially boycotted by FWICE due to his association with individuals. The content that has deeply insulted Indian sentiments, particularly through his collaboration with Pakistani artists known for anti-India sentiments. And his participation in projects filmed in sensitive border regions like Pahalgam shortly after terror incidents targeting our armed forces.” FWICE has also issued a “non-cooperation directive” to Dosanjh concerning his work with Hania Aamir.
“All associations affiliated with FWICE and their members are instructed not to collaborate with Diljit Dosanjh on any current or future projects until he publicly disassociates from this collaboration and issues an unconditional apology to the Indian film industry and the citizens of India,” the federation stated.
Diljit’s Projects
In response to widespread backlash, the producers of Sardaar Ji 3 have announced that they will not release the film in India. Currently, Diljit is working on Border 2, the sequel to the 1997 film Border. It features prominent roles for Sunny Deol and Varun Dhawan. The film is directed by Anurag Singh, known for movies like Kesari and Punjab 1984.
