Deepika Padukone Amrita Puri

Amrita Puri has publicly supported Deepika Padukone’s reported demand for an 8-hour workday in Bollywood. The actor highlighted issues of long working hours, unpaid overtime, and gender bias in the film industry. She also pointed out how similar demands from male actors often avoid public criticism.

Amrita Puri BACKS Deepika Padukone’s 8 Hour Work Shift Demand

Amrita Puri, best known for her role in Aisha, shared her personal experiences while speaking to Rediff. She said she has often worked extremely long schedules in the industry without fair compensation. At the same time, she strongly backed Deepika for raising concerns about working conditions.

She said, “There are times where I have done 16 hour shifts or all-nighters, you know. And I have not got paid for it, which is problematic, right? If you go beyond your 12 hours and are not paid. I think Deepika has brought up a very important issue. I think that she is being overly scrutinized. The thing with this whole Deepika thing is, I promise you, if it was a man, it wouldn’t be in the papers.”

She further addressed gender bias in the industry. According to her, similar contractual conditions already exist for some male actors, but they rarely face scrutiny. She said, “I know of a male actor who is extremely successful commercially, who has had that 8-hour clause in their contract for years. Nobody talks about it. It is a patriarchal system that has blown this out of proportion.”

Amrita also questioned the criticism around Deepika Padukone’s reported demands after becoming a mother. She stressed that work-life balance becomes even more important for new mothers trying to stay active in their careers. “And what is wrong if someone who is a new mother is asking for a little help? To be like I want to be able to act, I want to be part of the career force. I don’t want to sit at home,” she said.

About Deepika Padukone’s 8 Hour Work Shift Demand

The debate around working hours in Bollywood gained attention after reports of Deepika Padukone’s exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit. Media reports suggested differences over working conditions, including an 8-hour workday request after she became a mother. Her alleged exit from Kalki 2898 AD sequel also kept the discussion alive, although official details remain limited.

In conclusion, Amrita Puri’s remarks add another strong voice to the ongoing conversation about work conditions in Bollywood. Her comments highlight long-standing concerns about overtime, fairness, and gender-based double standards in the industry.
