Actor Anil Kapoor starred in the British film Slumdog Millionaire directed by Danny Boyle. But did you know which film of Anil helped him bag the movie? Any guesses? Well, it’s Subhash Ghai’s Taal. This has been revealed himself by Kapoor as Taal completes 23 years today (August 13). Anil shared a couple of stills from the film and a BTS pic with director Subhash Ghai. The 1999 movie starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Akshaye Khanna in lead roles. Anil was in a special appearance and his character received love from critics and audience. He even bagged Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Male Actor for his role.

Sharing the pics on his Instagram handle, Anil Kapoor penned a lengthy note where he revealed that his role in Taal was first offered to Govinda. The JugJugg Jeeyo actor wrote, “23 years of Taal! I will forever be grateful to have been a part of this iconic movie. In many ways, I was destined to do it, as my role was first offered to Govinda but ultimately came to me.” He added, “It was Taal that Danny Boyle saw and my performance in it that made him offer me Slumdog Millionaire, I thank my lucky stars for the love and support of the phenomenally talented showman @subhashghai1 saab and for 4 hugely successful milestone films with him!”

Talking about his performance in Slumdog Millionaire, he was highly praised for his nuanced portrayal of host Prem Kumar of a game show.

The film shows the rags to riches journey of slum boy, played by Dev Patel. It released in India in 2009. It also starred Freida Pinto, and Irrfan Khan among others. It won eight Academy Awards, including best picture and best director.
