In today’s times, we do not take a minute to pass a comment on someone’s body type, be it fat or thin, without even realising the impact it will have on the individual. Anil Kapoor’s upcoming film, ‘Fanney Khan’ brings the culture of body shaming to light, but this wasn’t the first time Anil has seen a similar scenario. We all know Anil Kapoor’s daughter, actress Sonam Kapoor and how she is a fashionista today, but in her teens, when she weighed 86 kg, Sonam was very concerned about her appearance.

In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Anil Kapoor spoke about the bad phase that Sonam went through during the time she was studying in Singapore. Anil shared, “Those 3-4 years were traumatic for her and when she returned home, I was shocked. The way she walked, the agony of climbing stairs, the misery on her face, broke my heart.”

He further revealed, “To be honest, I could not have imagined Sonam’s deep concerns with her appearance, because to me she has always been flawless.”

Initially, Sonam didn’t have plans to be an actress. Anil recalls, “She was still on the heavier side and seemingly unconcerned during the shooting of ‘Black’ (Sonam was an AD to SLB) but perhaps Sanjay saw the beautiful girl beneath that ungainly body and offered to launch her in ‘Saawariya‘”.

For any father, his daughter is always perfect and it’s no different for Anil Kapoor. Talking about Sonam, he says, “Sonam has always been perfect and flawless in my eyes and I couldn’t be happier that she is healthy and content with herself today. When it comes to beauty, we need to shift the focus from physicality to personality. Women who are smart, intelligent, empathetic, determined and accomplished are beautiful. And that is the kind of beautiful Sonam is.

You don’t need anything else when you have a supportive and encouraging father like Anil Kapoor, right, Sonam?

Coming back to ‘Fanney Khan’, the film also stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Rajkummar Rao and Pihu Sand. Directed by Atul Manjrekar, ‘Fanney Khan’ is inspired by the Dutch film, ‘Everybody’s Famous!’ and will release on August 3, 2018.
