In the past few months, we have seen several issues and debates plaguing the film industry. After Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, several debates surrounding nepotism, ‘insider vs outsider’, ‘movie mafia’ and privilege was reignited. Recently, as the new drug conspiracy emerged in Sushnat’s death case, questions about the way the dark secrets of the film industry have arisen.

Recently, veteran actress and Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan said that the image of the entire industry should not be tarnished just because of few people. Jaya also said that the government needs to support and stand by the film industry as they have always been at the forefront whenever the nation has needed any help. Her statement came a day after Ravi Kishan spoke about drug addiction in the film industry.

Now, filmmaker Anubhav Sinha praised Jaya and also asked Ravi to show concern about the vulgarity in Bhojpuri cinema.

Lauding Jaya Bachchan for showing spine and sharing a clip of her speech at Lok Sabha, Anubhav wrote, “I pay my respect to Jayaji. Those who do not know must watch this. This is what a spine looks like(sic).”

Further questioning Ravi Kishan, Anubhav tweeted, “I am grateful to Ravi Kishan that Bollywood and drug usage was discussed in the Parliament. There should also be a discussion on the Bhojpuri industry – the language and art have been misused to feed the poison of vulgarity to an entire generation for the past 30 years. That should also be discussed, he is responsible(sic).” Ravi is a prominent star in Bhojpuri cinema.

For the unversed, On Monday, speaking about the drug addiction in Bollywood, Ravi Kishan, who is also a BJP MP, had said in Lok Sabha, “A conspiracy is being hatched to destroy the country’s youth and our neighbouring countries are adding to it. The smuggling of drugs from Pakistan and China is being carried out every year. It is being brought via Punjab and Nepal. Drug addiction is in the film industry too. Several people have been apprehended. The NCB has been doing very good work. I urge the central government to take strict action against the culprits soon. Give them a befitting punishment and bring an end to this conspiracy by neighbouring countries.”

Apart from Anubhav, actresses like Taapsee Pannu and Sonam Kapoor also praised Jaya Bachchan for standing up for the industry. “For we have always stood by the initiatives, causes and awareness campaigns. It’s time for payback. Hitting the nail on its head and how !yet again a woman from the industry spoke up#Respect” tweeted Taapsee.

Whereas Sonam Kapoor wrote, “I want to be her when I grow up..”

We wonder if Ravi will respond to Anubhav Sinha’s question. Until then, you guys stay tuned to Bollywood Bubble.
