Anupam Kher Recalls Wife Kirron Kher’s Battle With Cancer; Says, “She Was Devastated Because…”

Veteran actor Anupam Kher recently shared heartfelt details about his personal life. Known for his powerful performances in films and TV shows, Anupam spoke about the strength of his 40-year marriage with actress-turned-politician Kirron Kher and how he supported her through a very difficult time.

Anupam Kher On Standing With Kirron Kher During Cancer Battle

During the interview, Anupam recalled the moment he found out that Kirron had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of cancer. At the time, he was working on the successful American show New Amsterdam, which had just been renewed for more seasons. Despite the professional success and opportunities, Anupam immediately decided to leave the show and be with his wife.

Speaking to Zoom, she said, “You are known by the choices that you make in life, in difficult times, not in good times. That is where your character shows, that’s where your steel is recognized and no one knows that I will behave like this in this situation, because you don’t know what turn a relationship or life takes at any given time. You don’t know the next moment, but I always tell everyone that when you are in difficult times, how you behave, how you react, that decides what kind of person you are.”

Anupam also shared what he believes makes a relationship last. Further, he added, “Kirron and I have completed 40 years of our marriage. Not necessarily, we were together for so many years, she was MP for 10 years, so she used to come and go and I was doing a very successful show in America called New Amsterdam, and I got an extension of 3 seasons, it was very successful. When I started doing the third season, I got to know that Kirron is diagnosed with multiple myeloma and my immediate reaction was that I should be next to her. Not that I am a doctor or anything like that, but I said, even if not that, she said to me, come. Of course, she was devastated, because anybody’s word is frightening but I said, no, I must leave this show.”

Anupam and Kirron Kher got married on August 26, 1985. Their journey, filled with ups and downs, is a true example of partnership, love, and standing by each other no matter what life brings.
