Some film locations eventually become cultural landmarks. For generations of Bollywood fans, Apta Railway Station remains one such memorable place. The small railway station in Maharashtra featured in one of the most iconic scenes from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, where Raj and Simran’s emotional train sequence unfolded. More than three decades later, Anupam Kher revisited the location and urged authorities to preserve it as a heritage tourist spot.
Anupam Kher Returns To The Iconic DDLJ Train Station
Sharing a video from the station on Instagram, Anupam Kher walked across the platform while reflecting on the film’s legacy and the memories attached to the location. “I’ve come to a railway station where an iconic scene of an iconic film was shot 32 years ago. It is Indian cinema’s history that every Indian all over the world must have seen and remembered,” the actor said in the clip.
He also recalled the famous climax featuring Amrish Puri delivering the legendary dialogue, “Ja, Simran, ja, jee le apni zindagi.” Additionally, Kher remembered the action sequence involving Shah Rukh Khan and a group of goons at the station.
The veteran actor compared the experience of revisiting the location to seeing the shooting spots of The Godfather in Sicily. He also thanked filmmakers Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra for making him part of the timeless classic.

In the caption of his post, Anupam wrote in Hindi, “It was a deeply emotional and nostalgic experience to be shooting at the same location 32 years later… where we shot the iconic Raj and Simran scene from #DilwaleDulhaniaLeJayenge. It felt like so many years had passed. Even today, standing there (Apta Station, District Raigarh, Maharashtra), it felt as if time had stopped for a moment.”
He further appealed to the Maharashtra government to preserve the railway station as a cinematic landmark. “Such film locations around the world become a part of people’s memories and emotions. This heritage of cinema should be preserved with the same respect here, too,” he added.
Apta Railway Station is located on the Panvel-Roha route of Central Railway in Maharashtra’s Raigad district. The station lies roughly 75–80 kilometres from Mumbai and continues to attract fans of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, which remains one of Hindi cinema’s longest-running and most celebrated films.
With his nostalgic revisit, Anupam Kher once again highlighted how cinema can turn ordinary places into emotional landmarks that stay alive in public memory for decades.
