Anurag Kashyap Epstein Files

Veteran filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, renowned for his bold storytelling and influential work in Indian cinema, has come forward to address recent online buzz after his name appeared in the newly released Epstein Files, a massive collection of documents linked to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein. In an interview with HT City, Kashyap stated that he has no association with Epstein or any allegations connected to him, and that the reference in the files is misleading.

Anurag Kashyap On Being Named In Epstein Files

Anurag Kashyap told HT City that he was surprised to see his name surface in the documents and does not know why it appeared there. He explained that while he receives numerous professional invitations, such as requests to speak, attend workshops, or participate in global events, he rarely accepts or responds to many of them. As per the recent Hindustan Times report, the director said, “I’ve no clue about this. I get invitations as a speaker, about 15 a month. I rarely respond. Also, I have never been to Beijing in my life!”

The reference to Kashyap in the Epstein Files came from an email thread in which organisers seem to have listed him as a ‘Bollywood guy’ alongside potential participants for various international workshops covering topics such as Buddhism, technology and medicine. Experts and independent fact checks make it clear that simply being mentioned in such correspondence does not imply attendance at events, acquaintance with Epstein, or involvement in any criminal activity.

There is currently no evidence in official court records or unsealed testimonies linking Kashyap to Epstein’s network. The filmmaker declined all such claims, saying, “It’s some random email, that’s self-explanatory. The click baits in my name are more popular than my films.”

In his comments, the Gangs Of Wasepur director expressed scepticism about the online speculation, suggesting that random mentions in emails and sensationalist coverage have driven much of the chatter rather than factual reporting or substantiated connections.

While Anurag Kashyap’s name appears in a part of the vast Epstein documentation, his clarification indicates there is no meaningful link or implication of wrongdoing.

What Are Epstein Files?

The Epstein Files refer to a large collection of documents released by U.S. authorities as part of investigations and court proceedings related to late financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted of sex offences and died in custody in 2019. These records include emails, contact lists, travel logs, and event invitations that mention several public figures. Names such as U.S. President Donald Trump, business leader Bill Gates, and Indian film personalities like Anurag Kashyap, Nandita Das, and Mira Nair appear in different contexts, often linked to professional correspondence or invitations. Legal experts have stressed that simply being mentioned in these documents does not indicate involvement in any criminal activity, as many references are incidental or unrelated to Epstein’s crimes.
