Rapper and singer Badshah is facing legal issues over his recently released Haryanvi folk song Tateeree, which has generated controversy for allegedly containing obscene content and inappropriate visuals. An FIR has been registered against him at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Sector 20, Panchkula, following complaints from residents concerned about the song’s impact on societal norms.
Badshah’s Song Tateeree In Trouble Due To Obscene Content, Inappropriate Visuals
The release of Tateeree has sparked protests and legal action, with claims that both the song and its official music video—posted on Badshah’s YouTube channel—feature offensive language, gestures, and visuals depicting girls in school uniforms. The complainants argue that the imagery and lyrics send a “negative message to society” and compromise public decency.
As per the FIR, the content of Tateeree is under investigation under Section 296 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). It addresses acts that outrage public decency or disturb social harmony, along with Sections 3 and 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986. It prohibits the portrayal of women in an indecent manner. Authorities confirmed that the probe is currently ongoing.
What Did HSCW Say?
Meanwhile, the Haryana State Women’s Commission (HSCW) has issued notices. Savita Arya, president of the Nari Tu Narayani Utthan Samiti in Panipat, and lawyer Rajnarayan Panghal from Rohtak have lodged complaints with the commission. They have raised objections to a line in the song: “Aaya Badshah doli chadhaane, in sabki ghodi banaane,” accusing it of objectifying women and minors.
HSCW chairperson Renu Bhatia stated that the commission has taken suo motu cognisance of the matter and has summoned Badshah. She also questioned how the song was cleared by regulatory authorities. Also, she cited her previous experience as a member of the Film Censor Board.
