Bombay HC Quashes Non-Bailable Warrant Against Arjun Rampal In 2019 Tax Evasion Case – Deets Inside

Bollywood actor Arjun Rampal has received relief from the Bombay High Court in a 2019 tax evasion case. The court has cancelled a non-bailable warrant that was earlier issued against him by a local magistrate’s court. The High court found the order to be mechanical and cryptic and said it was contrary to law.

Arjun Rampal Gets Relief As Bombay HC Cancels Non-Bailable Warrant In Tax Case

The case was related to alleged tax evasion under Section 276 C(2) of the Income Tax Act. The non-bailable warrant had been issued on April 8, following a request from the Income Tax Department. Arjun Rampal challenged this order in the High Court soon after.

According to Rampal’s plea, his lawyer had appeared before the magistrate’s court and filed an application seeking exemption from the actor’s personal appearance. However, the court rejected the request and issued a non-bailable warrant against him instead.

Justice Advait Sethna, who was hearing the case during the court’s vacation period, noted that the magistrate’s decision to issue the warrant lacked proper reasoning. He added that such an order should not be passed in a routine manner and must be backed by clear legal grounds.

The High Court’s decision has come as a relief for Arjun Rampal, who was facing arrest due to the warrant. The court made it clear that trial courts must act in accordance with the law and not issue harsh orders without solid justification.
