Composer Sajid Khan adopts Wajid as his surname; doesn’t want people to call him Sajid Khan

Popular Music composer Sajid Khan, of the Sajid-Wajid duo fame, opened up about adopting his late brother Wajid Khan’s last name. Sajid Khan and his late brother Wajid Khan, the composer duo may be two different individuals but have always had a single identity as Sajid-Wajid.

It was last year when Wajid Khan passed away due to a kidney ailment and complications of COVID-19. In an interview with ETimes, Sajid Khan shares the reason behind why he is determined to keep his brother alive through his name. He says, “I don’t want people to call me Sajid Khan, so I have adopted Wajid as my surname. Now, my name is Sajid Wajid and that’s how it will be till the last breath. So what if he isn’t physically present, I feel his presence all the time.”

Talking about work, the music composer adds, “I have started composing tunes I never thought I would and I think it’s because of him. I feel that Wajid is with me during those times.” Remembering Wajid Khan’s last days, Sajid shared that he had gone to meet his brother at the hospital, wearing a PPE kit, though everyone has stopped him. He shared, “I was so close to Wajid that I met him in the ICU wearing the PPE kit much against everyone’s advice.” Sajid added, “There came a point when I thought if I had to go, I would go with him, but not without seeing him or being by his side. It is extremely difficult to fill that void.”

The music composer continued, “After I lost him, I told Salman (Khan) bhai, ‘The day I feel I don’t have the fire in me, I will tell you that I am done’. He has been a great support and saw me through the difficult phase. The confidence I feel today and the fire inside me is burning even more.” Sajid Khan shared how Salman Khan was a great support to him and mentioned how the actor saw the music composer through his difficult time. Meanwhile, Sajid Khan is currently judging a music reality show Indian Pro Music League.

In the music industry, Sajid-Wajid is an established name. The composer duo has produced several hits including Mashallah, Soni De Nakhre and Hud Hud Dabangg, among others.
