One of the most crucial components in a movie is the soundtrack. The soundtrack helps the narrative of the story and also helps to reach out better to the audience. Talking about the soon-to-release movie ‘Daddy’, it boasts of an eclectic mix of songs which play a pivotal role in reaching out to the masses. The movie which is based on the life of infamous gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli has songs which resonate with real life Gawli’s beliefs. Set in the era of 80s and 90s, the music of ‘Daddy’ represents that particular era.

The makers had in mind a soundtrack which depicts the period the movie is set in. It was a really challenge for them to create songs keeping in mind Arun Gawli’s personal preferences and tastes in music. Considering his secular nature, festive songs like ‘Aala Re Aala Ganesha’ and ‘Eid Mubarak’ were brought in. Well yes, Gawli celebrates both Ganesh Chaturthi and Eid with equal gusto. The Ganesh track is composed by Sajid-Wajid and sung by Wajid and Dr Ganesh Chandanshive. It is a major highlight of the movie. ‘Eid Mubarak’ is also composed by Sajid-Wajid. Both the director Ashim Ahluwalia and lead actor Arjun Rampal took a keen interest in working on the music. They lent a combined effort in making sure that the soundtrack works organically and helps take ahead the narrative of this thriller. The movie also broke stereotypes of a cliched item number which has become a norm in almost every movie. ‘Daddy’ instead chose to recreate a song from 1987 called ‘Zindagi Meri Dance Dance’ which was to be used for a hit Mithun Chakraborty film but was never used. Arjun says, “We weren’t too keen on having an item song in a gangster film for the sake of it. It has become a norm to have one such song in films of this genre. I wanted to stay true to the era and have a song from the 80s which is part of a scene that takes place in Caesar Palace, a legendary nightclub from that time. When I heard ‘Zindagi Meri Dance Dance’, I knew it had to be on the ‘Daddy’ soundtrack.”

The makers have tried to retain the authenticity of the era by using actual bands that played in that period. For the Ganesha track, they got onboard the same band ‘Ajinkya Band’ which had played at Gawli’s son’s wedding in real life. So, we see that the makers have tried to stand true to the smallest of details while creating the soundtrack. Wave Cinemas Ponty Chadha in association with Raju Chadha, Karta Entertainment and Kundalini Entertainment present ‘Daddy’ which will be releasing on September 8, 2017.
