Dhurandhar 2: Ram Gopal Varma Predicts Ranveer Singh Starrer Could Send South Films For A Toss; Says, “If It Crosses Rs 1500, 2000 Cr Then…”

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma believes that Ranveer Singh’s upcoming film Dhurandhar 2 has the potential to challenge the dominance of South Indian cinema if it crosses the Rs 1,500–2,000 crore mark at the box office. Scroll down to read what he said.

Ram Gopal Varma Predicts Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2 Box Office Can Smash South Films

In a recent conversation with Variety India, Varma stated that if the sequel achieves such massive numbers, it could significantly shake up the Indian film industry’s box office trends. “If Dhurandhar 2 manages to generate between 1,500 and 2,000 crores worldwide, then South films will face serious competition,” said Varma.

He added that many southern action films still rely on an “old-school” style of storytelling and spectacle, which may not hold up against a big blockbuster like this. The sequel follows the success of the first Dhurandhar, which reportedly earned around Rs 1300 crore globally after its release in December last year.

Why Does RGV Believe Dhurandhar 2 Could Perform Even Better?

According to Varma, the key advantage lies in the audience’s existing emotional connection with the characters and storyline. The film is directed by Aditya Dhar and features Ranveer Singh as Hamza, also known as Jaskirat. He is an Indian operative working in Pakistan.

Varma explained that this prior investment from viewers could help Dhurandhar 2 surpass the first film’s performance. “The audience has already invested heavily in the characters and the story. They will likely follow the story’s trajectory from part one,” he said.

He also noted that both parts were shot together, making the narrative feel like “one film split into two”. It is very similar to the storytelling style of blockbuster films like Baahubali.

What Sets The Action Apart In Dhurandhar?

Varma emphasised that the film’s action sequences are more realistic and grounded. “You can’t have people flying in the air or kicking in the air. It has to be real,” he stated, praising the franchise for pushing Bollywood toward more authentic action choreography. The trailer released recently also earned Varma’s praise, with the filmmaker describing the film’s scale as “stratospheric” on social media.
