Rakesh Bedi REACTS To Dhurandhar 2 Being Called A Propaganda Film

Rakesh Bedi has returned to reprise his role as the villainous Pakistani politician Jameel Jamali in Dhurandhar 2 aka Dhurandhar The Revenge, starring Ranveer Singh. The film is currently in theatres, and among the many actors earning praise for their performances is Rakesh Bedi. In an interview, he shared his thoughts on the excitement surrounding the sequel, working with Ranveer Singh and director Aditya Dhar, and the film’s political themes.

Rakesh Bedi REACTS To Dhurandhar 2 Being Called A Propaganda Film

When asked about the film being labelled as ‘propaganda’ by some viewers and critics on social media, Rakesh Bedi responded thoughtfully. “I don’t believe in politics. I think it’s about cinema… Everyone has the right to like or dislike a film. But I don’t think it’s fair to categorize it as pro- or anti-establishment. The real verdict is that people are loving it,” he told NDTV.

He added, “Recently, there was a film on Indira Gandhi and (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi, these films didn’t run for even two days. Dhurandhar’s writing, screenplay is great. People haven’t seen a film of this scale being mounted ever.”

For Rakesh Bedi, the release of Dhurandhar 2 feels like a celebration of cinema itself. “The expectations were already on the cards, and now they are out. Everybody is talking about the film very highly. So many shows are going on round the clock now. This is a mad frenzy which is going on. I’ve never seen something like this in my career at least. Many people have not seen this kind of a frenzy, madness, and euphoria for a film,” he said, also asking fans to come to theatres to watch the film and “not reveal the end”.

Rakesh On Working With Ranveer Singh

The 71-year-old actor also reflected on his experience working with Ranveer Singh. “A star’s stardom is an external phenomenon. When you’re on set, you’re in character. It doesn’t matter if someone is a big star or a newcomer. Everyone needs to be on the same page and show mutual respect. That’s when the magic happens. If ego comes into play, the scene falls flat,” he explained.

Rakesh Bedi was also thrilled by the film’s impact, recalling a viral moment where Finland’s President Alexander Stubb and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney discussed Dhurandhar during a morning run in London. “What could be a bigger compliment? I was elated to hear that a film I’m part of is being talked about at this level,” he said. Aditya Dhar often said, ‘We are going to raise the bar,’ and after watching the film, Rakesh Bedi joked, “You haven’t just raised the bar—you’ve broken it, because people are going to see this movie again and again.”

Rakesh Bedi’s Career

Known for his roles in classics like Chashme Buddoor, Ek Duuje Ke Liye, as well as TV serials like Shrimaan Shrimati and Zabaan Sambhalke, Rakesh Bedi feels that Dhurandhar has been a “fantastic gift” at this stage of his career, and he’s grateful to be part of its success.
