Saumya Tandon Admits Missing Akshaye Khanna In Dhurandhar 2
Speaking to Variety India, Saumya Tandon acknowledged the limited scope of her part, stating, “I actually do not have much to do in ‘Dhurandhar 2.’” Referring to a scene that has gained traction online, she chose to remain guarded, adding, “There is a scene of mine that has gone viral, but I wouldn’t like to speak about it because I think I’d like them to see the movie first.” She described the sequence as intense and emotionally layered, set during Rehman Dakait’s funeral, where her character grapples with anger, confusion, and desperation. She further noted that many moments in the film relied heavily on conveying emotions through subtle expressions, particularly through the eyes—something she found especially challenging.
In the film, Saumya portrays Ulfath Rehman, the wife of Rehman Dakait, played by Akshaye Khanna. Reflecting on the narrative, she admitted missing Khanna’s presence in the sequel, saying, “Of course, as a viewer, I missed him a lot. He was so good in the first film. But then this is a story, and it progresses after his death.” While she previously shared that she and Khanna bonded over their mutual love for books despite both being introverted, Saumya remained tight-lipped about further plot details, stating, “I would say that there is no backstory that I would like to reveal too much because otherwise I’m going to spoil it for the audience.”
Saumya Tandon On Dhurandhar 2 Receiving Immense Love
The film has also received high praise from filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, who believes it could redefine filmmaking in India. Echoing this sentiment, Saumya remarked, “Definitely, it has kind of set a milestone. This particular film broke many, you know, rules of screenplay writing.” She highlighted its unconventional storytelling, distinctive portrayal of violence, innovative use of background score, and the balanced treatment of each character. She also emphasised the film’s grounded and realistic approach to a powerful subject, setting it apart from more dramatized narratives.
Looking ahead, Saumya expressed hope that the film’s success would encourage the industry to prioritise quality content. She said, “It’s always better when a very good work of cinema or good content wins. Because, then it also encourages the other people in the industry to up their game so that we keep getting good content.” She added that filmmakers may now place greater emphasis on strong scripts, thorough pre-production, and performance-driven storytelling rather than purely marketing-driven projects, crediting Aditya Dhar for raising the bar in Indian cinema.
