Chaudhary Aslam's Wife Upset With Sanjay Dutt's Portrayal In Dhurandhar

Sanjay Dutt portrays Chaudhary Aslam in the film Dhurandhar. The real-life Aslam was a prominent leader of the Lyari Task Force in Pakistan, known for dismantling numerous gangsters in the region. Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar draws inspiration from actual events, offering a semi-fictionalised account of India’s fight against terrorism in Pakistan, focusing particularly on the gangs operating out of Karachi’s Lyari area.

The film features several characters based on real individuals, including the late Karachi Police Officer Chaudhary Aslam Khan, played by Sanjay Dutt. Aslam’s widow, Noreen, has now shared her thoughts on her husband’s portrayal in the movie, which stars Ranveer Singh.

During a podcast with Dialogue Pakistan, Noreen revealed that her husband was a fan of Sanjay Dutt ever since watching Khalnayak in the 1990s, and she believed the actor would do justice to his character. However, she expressed her displeasure over a particular depiction in the film’s trailer, where a character describes Aslam as “the offspring of the devil and a djinn.”

Objecting to this portrayal, Noreen stated, “We are Muslims, and such words are disrespectful not only to Aslam but also to his mother, who was a simple, honest woman. If I see my husband being portrayed incorrectly or any propaganda against him in the film, I will take all necessary legal actions. It’s strange that Indian filmmakers choose to malign Pakistan rather than focusing on other subjects.”

Who Was Chaudhary Aslam?

Born in 1963, Chaudhary Aslam joined the Sind Police as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in the 1980s and served in various towns across Sindh. In the 2000s, he was appointed to lead the Lyari Task Force during the Pakistani government’s crackdown on criminal gangs in Karachi. He is credited with successfully eliminating several major gangsters in the region. After surviving an attack by the Taliban in 2011, Aslam was eventually assassinated in 2014 by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Pakistani Taliban faction.

In Dhurandhar, Sanjay Dutt’s character is based on Aslam, highlighting Operation Lyari and the role of Indian intelligence in dismantling terror networks there.
