In this age of digital media, everything you do is under scanner especially if you are a celeb. Recently, Sonam Kapoor and several other celebrities and social media influencers received flak for attending and supporting MDL Beast music festival in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

An Instagram account which goes by the name Diet Prada slammed Sonam for being a hypocrite and attending the event despite knowing the country’s violation of Human Rights Act.

Diet Prada, which has about 1.6 million followers on Instagram, called out several celebrities who attended the music festival in Saudi. As per a Mumbai Mirror report, Diet Prada lashed out at these celebrities by stating, “Cashing big fat checks in exchange for #content creation (also known as propaganda) to rehabilitate the image of Saudi Arabia, a country said to be causing ‘the world’s worst humanitarian crisis’, according to the United Nations. According to anonymous sources, six-figure sums were paid for attendance and geo-tagged posts.”

Defending herself, Sonam wrote, “Let’s just agree to disagree. Let’s appreciate that the whole world is a shithole right now and any positive step forward is something that I want to celebrate. I was treated with immense respect and love as a Hindu brown female actor.”

Diet slammed the ‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga’ actress stating that her response was ‘tone-deaf’. They even hit back at the actress by saying, “Would be cool if you could explain the hypocrisy of your promoting Saudi Arabia where LGBTQ are subject to capital punishment. Or maybe donate the money you made to various LGBTQ advocacy groups.”

Sonam has always strongly advocated for the rights of the LGBTQ community. So it was quite obvious that her attendance in the event held at Saudi raised quite a few eyebrows.

Apart from Sonam, other celebs who had attended the fest were Alessandra Ambrosio, Ryan Phillipe, Ed Westwick and Wilmer Valderrama.
