Siddhant Chaturvedi may now be known for his effortless boy-next-door charm, but the road to recognition was paved with rejection. Before his breakout debut in Gully Boy, the actor faced several setbacks—one of which stayed with him for years because it had nothing to do with talent.
Siddhant Chaturvedi Opens Up On Rejection That Hurt Him The Most
Speaking about his upcoming film Do Deewane Seher Mein, where his character is rejected in an arranged marriage setup because of a lisp, Siddhant was asked if he had ever faced rejection for a similarly trivial reason in real life. His answer was immediate and deeply personal.
Siddhant recalled being shortlisted for a big film soon after quitting his CA career. After months of workshops and positive feedback from the director and casting director, he felt confident. But when the producer finally saw his screen test, he was rejected. The reason shocked him: “Curly baal wale hero nahi bante.”
Trying to fit into the industry’s narrow standards, Siddhant straightened his hair and returned for another audition—only to be rejected again, this time for the opposite reason. “Zyada straight ho gaye hain baal,” he was told. “I kept wondering, what is this criterion to reject someone?” he said, admitting the contradiction left him deeply confused and hurt.
The rejection affected him emotionally. “I went home and shaved my head. I was so sad. That stayed with me for a long time,” Siddhant shared, adding that the decision was especially difficult because his mother loved his curly hair. The episode also highlights a larger, often ignored issue—men being body-shamed and objectified, reduced to rigid ideas of what a ‘hero’ should look like.
Today, Siddhant has made peace with his appearance and proudly owns his curls. Pointing to the poster of Do Deewane Seher Mein, he says, “Look at it now—it’s right there in the centre. And I’m happy with that.”
