Bobby Deol is currently enjoying the success of The Ba***ds of Bollywood, and he recently opened up about his early life and rise to stardom. He shared heartfelt insights about his close bonds with his brother Sunny Deol and his sisters, Laali and Anu. In a humorous revelation, Bobby mentioned that as a child, he dreamed of having four children someday, all named after his siblings.
Bobby Deol Wanted To Name His Kids After His Siblings
On Raj Shamani’s podcast, Bobby Deol said, “When I got married, I wanted to have four kids… and I wanted to name them exactly the same names as my siblings because we have very unisex pet names. My brother is Sunny—you could be a boy or a girl. My eldest sister is Laali; she could be a boy or a girl. Then Anu and Bobby. All unisex names.”
Bobby Desired To Have A Daughter
Laughing, he added, “That was when I was growing up. I used to think of these things. Then when my wife and I were expecting our first child, I only looked for girl names.” Bobby revealed his deep desire to have a daughter, inspired by the special bond his sisters share with their parents.
He explained, “I just wanted to have a daughter. If I go a little back… my second sister, who is two years older than me, got married, and before that she said, ‘If I have a daughter, I’ll name her Nicky.’ That’s my mom… So I said, ‘No, I’m going to name my daughter Nicky.'”
Bobby’s Disagreement With His Sister
Bobby recalled a playful disagreement with his sister over this, which made her emotional. Ultimately, Anu did have a daughter named Nicky, who holds a special place in Bobby’s heart. When Bobby was choosing girl names for his first child, Nicky once questioned his ignorance, prompting him to joke that if he couldn’t have a daughter, he would adopt one.
He reminisced, “I had my first son, and it was the day after Gadar released. It was a huge moment for me and my brother, about 24 years ago. There was so much happiness in the house… The day my son was born, I felt this connection on a whole new level. My kids, I have two boys, and the second one… they didn’t let me name him Dharam. My family said, ‘How can we call him by your papa’s name?'”
He explained that he wanted to name his son Dharam because of how his grandmother used to call out to Dharmendra. “It just had this beautiful emotion, sound, love—it just felt right. They told me, ‘You can’t. You have to choose another name.’ I argued, ‘Who calls papa by his name?’ Then I picked another name.”
Bobby decided to name his first son Aryaman, appreciating its sound and meaning. When his second son was born, he named him Dharam, after Dharmendra, whom he describes as loving and caring just like his grandfather.
