Shahid Kapoor starrer sports drama film, ‘Jersey’ is all set for its theatrical release and also stars  Mrunal Thakur, and Pankaj Kapur in pivotal roles. The film is a remake of his 2019 Telugu film of the same title which starred popular actor Nani in the lead role. It was directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri who is also helming the Hindi version of the film.

Now, in an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Shahid reacts to comparisons with the original Nani starrer. He revealed that he was introduced to ‘Jersey’ while he was shooting for ‘Kabir Singh’, a remake of the Telugu romantic drama ‘Arjun Reddy’ (2017) “I love the fact that people feel so passionately about the film, and that they have so much of ownership over it that it’s almost like their own child, or their own family member and that’s why we all love movies because it draws that kind of reaction out of it. It is actually a compliment to the original film, the original filmmaker, the original story, the original character, the performers, and I am doing the film because I love the original as well. It’s just that because I am an actor, I have the opportunity to take it to the wider audience, I am exercising that opportunity, I am taking it forward because I feel that the heart of the story and what it says deserves to go to as many as people as possible.”

Further, he said that the 2019 film had an impact on him emotionally and thus he chose to do the remake of the film. The story is about a thirty-six-year-old cricketer named Arjun (Shahid) who, having forgone his cricketing career ten years ago, is aiming to play for the Indian team to accomplish his son’s want for a jersey. Meanwhile, the film will be theatrically released on 31 December.
