Following recent security incidents involving celebs Rohit Shetty and Ranveer Singh, film industry bodies have taken action by writing to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on these concerns. They have requested a meeting to discuss the rising threats and the measures the government is implementing to ensure safety.
Film Bodies Write Letter To Maharashtra CM Over Celebs Security Concerns
Earlier this week, Mid-Day reported that key film industry bodies convened to determine their response after shots were fired outside Rohit Shetty’s residence and extortion threats were made against Ranveer Singh (Call for Protection, Feb 16). Six organisations signed a letter dated February 16, a copy of which is in Mid-Day’s possession.
Ashoke Pandit, President of the Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association, emphasised the urgency of a meeting with the CM. He stated, “The film industry is in shock. We have discussed the issue extensively and believe that reaching out to the Chief Minister is essential. We are hopeful the government will take effective action.”
Ratan Jain, President of the Indian Film and Television Producers Council, reflected on the situation, saying, “Such attacks and threats remind us of the 1990s, when the industry was a soft target. Extortion calls and attacks were common, and many in the industry had to pay money to protect themselves.”
Ashok Dubey, General Secretary of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), added, “We had previously written to the government requesting a meeting, but received no response. Now, with producers’ bodies joining together, we’ve sent another letter because we do not want a repeat of the 1990s. We need the government’s support in ensuring our safety.”
Timeline of recent events:
