Ranveer Singh has agreed to submit a revised apology affidavit to the Karnataka High Court following objections from the complainant regarding his earlier submission. The actor’s decision comes amid the ongoing Kantara mimicry controversy stemming from the International Film Festival of India 2025. The complainant had criticised Singh’s initial apology, stating it did not demonstrate genuine remorse.
Ranveer Singh To File Revised Apology In Karnataka HC After Objection
During the hearing, Singh’s legal team informed the court that a new affidavit would be filed. This will take place after consulting with the complainant. The objection centred on the tone of Singh’s original apology, with claims that it lacked sincerity. The court was told that the actor is now willing to reconsider and amend the contents of his apology.
What Happened At IFFI 2025 In Goa?
The controversy dates back to an incident at IFFI 2025 in Goa. Singh faced criticism for mimicking a key scene from Kantara: Chapter 1. The performance was particularly sensitive as Rishab Shetty, the film’s lead actor and director, was present in the audience. During the event, Singh addressed Shetty and said, “I watched Kantara Chapter 1 in theatres, and Rishab, it was an outstanding performance—especially when the female ghost (Chamundi daiva) enters your body—that shot was amazing.”
While Shetty appeared to laugh at the time, the moment sparked outrage online, with many critics calling the act insensitive. Several users objected to Singh referring to the sacred forest deities, known as daivas, as “ghosts,” alleging it was a misrepresentation of cultural beliefs. The controversy intensified when additional clips emerged showing Shetty cautioning Singh against mimicking him during the event.
Following the backlash, Singh issued a public apology. However, the matter proceeded to the Karnataka High Court after a complainant challenged the sincerity of that apology, leading to the current development. Further proceedings are expected once the revised affidavit is submitted.
