On National Sports Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘Fit India Movement’ in New Delhi. Taking to his Twitter handle, PM Modi wrote, “Today, on National Sports Day we pledge to strength Fit India Movement!” The campaign aims to raise awareness amongst the masses on the importance of being healthy.

Congratulating the Prime Minister on this much-needed initiative, filmmaker Karan Johar wrote, “Congratulations to our honourable PM @narendramodi & sports minister @kirenrijiju for launching the Fit India Movement on 29th August. I’m sure this will inspire all Indians in finding easy and fun ways to adapt a fit and healthy lifestyle #FitIndiaMovement(sic)”

Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor also congratulated the PM as well as the sports minister Kiren Rijiju for launching this movement. Taking to his twitter handle he wrote, “Congratulations to our PM @narendramodi & sports minister @kirenrijiju for launching the Fit India Movement on 29th August. I’m sure this will inspire all Indians in finding easy and fun ways to adapt a fit and healthy lifestyle #FitIndiaMovement(sic)”

Fitness enthusiast and one of the fittest actresses of Bollywood, Shilpa Shetty shared a video of her yoga exercise. Shilpa wrote, “In today’s fast-paced life and competitive world, being fit is as important as breathing. So, I urge you all to join me in our Hon’ble Prime Minister, @narendramodi’s initiative, the ‘Fit India’ campaign. Extremely proud to be a part of the advisory committee of this amazing movement. Pledge to make fitness a way of life today(sic),” she wrote.

Former actress and Union Cabinet Minister Smriti Irani also urged people to join the movement and help in building a healthy nation.

This initiative by the government is a tribute to Hockey wizard Major Dhyanchand. And today being hs birth anniversary, it couldn’t have been a better day to announce the initiative.

And looking at the advent of technology these days, with people glued to their devices, this initiative is definitely the need of the hour.
