Filmmaker Neeraj Pandey has submitted an affidavit to the Supreme Court confirming that the controversial title of his upcoming film, previously called Ghooskhor Pandat, has been “unequivocally withdrawn.” He assured that the movie does not insult or target any religion or community. Addressing concerns raised after the teaser release on February 3, the affidavit stated that the promotional material was withdrawn.

Pandey stated, “I categorically and unequivocally affirm that neither I nor my production house had any deliberate or malicious intent to offend the religious feelings of any group of citizens of India.”

He emphasised that the film “does not insult or seek to insult any religion, community, or religious beliefs of any class of Indian citizens, whether through words, visuals, title, promotional content, electronic means, or otherwise.”

Referring again to objections following the teaser’s release, the affidavit noted, “After considering the concerns received from the public, I withdrew the promotional materials related to the film on February 6, 2026.He clarified that there was “never any intention to demean any religion, caste, or community.”

What Was The Ghooskhor Controversy?

On February 12, the Supreme Court expressed disapproval over the film’s title. They remarked that a section of society cannot be denigrated under the guise of free expression. The court issued notices to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Central Board of Film Certification, and Pandey.

The petition claimed that the film promotes caste and religion-based stereotypes. It also poses a threat to public order, communal harmony, and constitutional values. It argued that the title and storyline were prima facie offensive and derogatory, particularly targeting the Brahmin community. The PIL objected to the use of “Pandat,” a term associated with caste and religion, along with “Ghooskhor,” which connotes bribery and moral corruption.
