EXCLUSIVE: Harsh Mayar Opens Up About Changing His Gullak Image With One Two Cha Cha Chaa; Says, “I Didn’t Want To Get Too Comfortable”

Harsh Mayar Reveals Why He Choose To Become A Part Of One Two Cha Cha Chaa

Talking about why One Two Cha Cha Chaa felt like the right project after the success of Gullak, Harsh reflects on how audiences had begun associating him with a very specific image. Opening up about this phase, he shares his thought process before taking up the film. He explains, “After Gullak, a lot of people started seeing me in a very homely image which I’m grateful for. But as an actor, I didn’t want to get too comfortable. One Two Cha Cha Chaa came at a time when I really wanted to break that image and try something energetic, physical and quirky. It felt like the right opportunity to show a different side of me without losing the warmth people connect with.”

Harsh On His Approach To The Character

Comedy, especially in action-driven films, can often feel exaggerated or forced if not handled carefully. Harsh reveals that maintaining authenticity was a key focus while shaping the character of Lappu. Sharing how he approached the humour in the film, he says, “That was something we were very conscious about. Lappu is funny because of who he is, not because he’s trying to be funny. I focused a lot on understanding his innocence, his confusion, his emotional honesty. Once that was clear, the humour started coming naturally from how he reacts to the world. We never played for jokes we played the truth of the situation.”

Another major highlight of One Two Cha Cha Chaa is Harsh sharing screen space with seasoned actor Ashutosh Rana. For Harsh, this collaboration turned into a valuable learning experience. Speaking about the impact Ashutosh Rana had on him as an actor, he adds, “Working with Ashutosh sir was honestly a masterclass. His sheer presence makes you more alert as an actor. Even in a lighter, action-comedy space, he brings such depth and conviction that it pushes you to raise your own level. I became more disciplined, more focused, just by being around him.”

With One Two Cha Cha Chaa, Harsh Mayar appears ready to break stereotypes, balance humour with honesty, and prove once again that he is an actor who thrives on constant growth and reinvention.
