Speaking candidly at the News18 summit, the actor reflected on his early years, his close bond with the Kapoor household, and how their success inspired rather than intimidated him.

Instead, the actor described growing up around their creative environment. “Nahi, aisa nahi tha.” He added, “Of course, I’ve been lucky that from the time I came into my senses, I always wanted to be an actor aur ussi dauran humara bohot hi kareebi rishta tha, dosti thi. Mera poora parivar is very, very close to the Kapoor family.”

From visiting their home to spending time at the iconic RK Studio, which shaped his own aspirations, the actor said, “So wahan aana jaana, unke ghar jaana, filme dekhna, RK Studio jaana, yeh sab toh chalta rehta tha. But, I feel, maine kabhi aisa nahi socha ki I wanted to be… I was always motivated and inspired by… I always wanted to do things which I felt I could do. Voh family bohot hi talented family hai,” he added.

Anil Kapoor Appreciates The Kapoor Lineage

The actor went on to praise several stalwarts from the Kapoor lineage, acknowledging the immense talent each generation has brought to Indian cinema, he said, “Unme aisi aisi cheezein hain jo mujhe lagta hai mujhme nahi hain. Prithviraj Kapoor sahab, Raj Kapoor sahab, Shammi Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor ab Ranbir, Kareena yeh bohot hi special log hain. Toh maine kaha ki yeh itne special hain toh mujhe apna ek alag kisam ki trajectory banani hai.”

Anil Kapoor said that he worked hard to build his legacy. He reflected on his film choices and said that early on in his career, he picked roles which he felt would make him happy. He said that since he worked with prominent directors like Mani Ratnam, his foundational filmography is full of “real and authentic” stories.

Concluding his thoughts, the actor emphasised that while the Kapoor family’s success always motivated him, his focus remained on carving out an independent identity and shaping a career defined by his own choices and hard work rather than comparison.
