Kangana Ranaut starrer Thalaivii is scheduled for a theatrical release on September 10. The actress is currently gearing up for the film’s release. She is busy promoting it in full swing. While the film Thalaivii is riding high on positive reviews from critics, Kangana Ranaut is opening up about the role of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa that she is playing in the biopic. The Manikarnika actress spoke about gaining weight for the film and other challenges she had to face. 

Speaking with Film Companion, Kangana said that when she was first approached for Thalaivii, she had reservations about playing Jayalalithaa on the big screen. She opened up about being skeptical about gaining weight for the role.

Kangana Ranaut said, “I thought I was the worst casting for Thalaivii, the worst there can be. Vijayendra (writer KV Vijayendra Prasad) sir actually came with the script to me and I saw Jaya amma’s videos and I was like, ‘What?’ Like, I have an angular face with a strong jaw and Jaya amma has a different kind of face. She is a beautiful, voluptuous woman and she is a Bharatanatyam dancer and she speaks Tamil.”

The Queen actress added, “She sheer obstacles in my 30s to gain 20-25 kgs of weight… Who knows how I will look after gaining? Will I even be attractive? There were so many doubts that I had.

Talking about the film Thalaivii, it features the journey of Jayalalithaa from films to politics. The film is directed by A.L. Vijay and stars Kangana Ranaut, Arvind Swami, Nassar, Bhagyashree, and Jissu Sengupta, among others.
